Works commenced at FMG’s Solomon Hub in late 2011, with significant greenfields construction work undertaken to develop the 60 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) operation. The development comprises two stages – Firetail, producing 20mtpa, and the King’s Valley mine producing 40mtpa. The US$3.5 billion Solomon site has two OPFs, three crushing hubs, a 125MW power station, its own airstrip, and three camps to house 3000 people.
The latest processing facility to come into start-up/operations was Kings Valley, opening in March 2014. This is a stand alone ore producer that exports directly to Port Hedland.
OGS provided Operations and Maintenance and Engineering support for both Firetail and King’s Valley, with the deployment of an Integrated Commissioning Team and full use of completions management software to manage the completions and commissioning process from end to end.
